Sprinters still at the top of the pronostics in Sursee: Rollerblade MPC World team focused on some new podiums this week-end!
Vincent Esnault, 28.04.2008
The second stage of the World Inline Cup will be held this Saturday at 17:00 in Sursee, Switzerland. The only changing of facts is that the women will take the start 3 minutes before the men. But at the end, there are some preatty good chances that the victories of both of the marathons will be played in massive sprints!

The two divisions will have to round around the lake of Sursee two times. The roads are quite flate there, so that we can expect very high speeds. The team tactics will have a lot of importance at the end of the races: the men of Rollerblade MPC World prooved they already were able to capture podiums (Luca Saggiorato 2nd in Zug); the women have the possibility as well!

According to the local meteo, the weather will be good in Switzerland this next Saturday. It's a first good news!

The men's race was very fast and thrilling. After the first quarter of the race, there was already a breakaway-group of five. At the end, the French Yann Guyader (Alessi Powerslide World) won.

The women's race was even more thrilling. The sprint expert Cecilia Baena (Bont Wheels) crashed before the finish, got back on her skates and moved on. At the end, she managed to get on the podium on the third place behind the German Jana Gegner and her team mate Laura Lardani (Rollerblade MPC World).

YANN GUYADER WINS IN SURSEE

May 4,2008
Sursee, Matter-Inline Center Report
The Sursee WIC was the day of the Alessi-Powerslide team, the boys completely dominated the race by taking the Victory with Yann Guyader and the second place with Steve Galliazzo.

It was another day to forget at the office for the Men’s Matter-Inline Center team, we still did not put it all together on race day. The major mistake the team made was to miss the winning attack, this put the team on the back foot from the get go, forcing the team to chase and not be chased.

After the breakaway was gone the team focused on the sprint finish, for the second WIC, the team was close to doing a perfect sprint. The team had perfect position for the final 5km, this was not easy to achieve due to the large amount for fighting for pack position. Heading around the final corner the team was leading the pack but in starting the final blast to the line a fraction of a second to late allowed the RB team to get up next to the team on the final straight.

This boxed the team and made it difficult to open up a clean sprint to the line, at the line Andres finished in the 9th spot while Kalon came in for 10th and Peter salvaged a 14th.
The Women’s team continued to improve in Sursee, in the pack sprint Liana came in for the 4th placement while Andrea and Natalia were 6th and 7th across the line. These consistence results from the girls have seen them move up the overall rankings in the WIC and SIC. Andrea is currently 2nd equal in the WIC and 2 overall in the SIC while Liana has moved into the 4th spot overall.
So back to the drawing board for the boys, close but yet so so far.

Jana 1st, Laura 2nd: clear victory for Rollerblade MPC World!

This is the 1st victory in the WIC for the team of Rollerblade MPC World. Jana Gegner managed to take the gold after a fast and tough race in Sursee, Switzerland. Her teammate Laura Lardani captured the silver, concretizing a clear podium for the team.

Sunny skies, perfect temperatures, flat roads – with some little up hills, but nothing really hard – and two laps around the lake of Sempachersee: that’s for the background of the second stage of the World Inline Cup. After the first stage in Zug, the four team mates of Rollerblade MPC World already knew the rules: to race till the finish line in a leading position. And they succeeded completely in that mission!

The three first kilometers of the marathon, in the city of Sursee, were neutralized. Naturally, the pace reminded compact, waiting for some larger and straight roads, out of the city. When this appeared, the blue squad took the control of an international peloton, with the other major teams: Laura Lardani imposed her tempo ahead in the ten first kilometers, whereas Cathy Penan attacked many times right after.

But after two laps around the lake, a peloton of 44 skaters was getting closer to the finish line. It’s a predominance of these stages of the WIC, early in the season and on dry grounds: there’s usually no real break. This stage was one of them and augured from a massive and spectacular sprint. Unfortunately, a group of women felt at the red flame, in the ultimate downhill, on the left side of the road…

But no one from Rollerblade MPC World: the girls were already skating as a train, the ones after the others, ahead: Simona Di Eugenio realized a perfect lead out for Jana Gegner and Laura Lardani, and let them pass at 500m to the line.

The German then took the control of the pace, till the line! It’s Jana strong point to be able to lead a sprint with power and determination. She did it again in a WIC stage (after the one of Rennes). Laura Lardani was following close to her, and the two team mates crossed the line with a large smiling on their faces! Cathy was 12 and Simona 15, in the same time than the pace.

Men and womans results

When two of the World superstars get wiped out on a corner at the same time, by as yet an un named skater after only about 12 to 15 km into the race & both end up in the hospital , due to this yet to be described action.

Cecilia required 4 stiches to her knee & has a pulled groin, to come from 20 back with 250 meters to go & get 3rd, was an amazing effort.

Nicole Begg had 6 stiches inserted into a Chin Wound & a brocken Jaw, plus a serious Hematoma & basically skated the race on one leg, to finish was amiricle let alone 18th.

She was loosing that much blood from a gaping Chin wound that required 6 stitches, she asked officials on Motor bikes for a plaster, one helpfullone suggested she stop, her legs & skaters were spattered all over with her own blood.

Nicole has to travel a couple of hours back to Lucerne in the Morning, so a specialist can work out how to repare the break, which is high in the jaw.

It is very Doubtfull that Cecilia & Nicole will take part in the track races next week in Spain & the injuries could well prevent them from partaking in the WIC in Wolvega, the following week.

So Marcello the wheels have not fallen off any vechicle, if the accident is deemed anything but an accident, some wheels will be falling off elsewhere, as deliberate or inconsiderent acts taking out two skaters who are very competent on their skates, is not Hoyle at all.

There were seven or 8 menin the original break, Two X Tec Skaters & Nico from Zepto were dropped off, WIC KIng Max Presti was there for the 5 man sprint.

Well Max has been involved in a bit of swimming & what not in the past years, but an official from another team presented a video & Max was Hanged on some contaminated side view data.

When the official film was shown on the big screen, what an embarrassement to CIC Guru CONI, as Max appeared totally in the clear. or if an incident,it was very minor.

We may not of heard the last of this case yet & he may well be reinstated.

Men's Marathon

Women's Marathon

Already mutterings about the safety of the 110mm wheels, as in downhillsections high speeds are being reached & some strong but incompetent skaters, are creating havic, we saw a superman dive, after a skater lept straight off the roundabout & torpedoed into Roman Christen, who suffered a brocken Collar Bone & the spill cost a number of skaters the chance to contest the the 20th to 50th positions.

Also several women suffered injuries in a major crash about 150 meters out from the finish, in a sprint crash.

Unfortunately the Injury suffered by Nicole Begg is serious & has a fractured jaw, which will be wired up for 10 days & 6 weeks of Elastic band support.

WIC Sursee Crash

by Nicole Begg (May 4, 2008)
Nicole BeggI crashed quiet hard today in the Sursee World Inline Cup. I fell about 10km in to the race around a tight corner coming off a slight down hill, Cecilia also crashed with me. I spent about 3 hours at the Sursee Hospital tonight getting cleaned and stitched up. When I fell I landed on my chin and split it open, I was amazed at how much blood there was it went everywhere. Landing on my chin my jaw took all the impact and after x-rays the doctor is saying that I have broken a certain part of my jaw. Tomorrow I am seeing a specialist and I am hoping that a closer look will show it's only a fracture (fingers crossed). My leg is what is sore though I hit the deck hard and it's looking like I have a hematoma. I will have more news tomorrow and hopefully it's good news.

WIC Sursee Crash and Medical Update and I'm Surviving and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
So apart from the 6 Stiches in a serious Chin wound & the other abrasions & leg injury, plus the damage to Cecilia, perhaps the referees should be more attuned to catching the culprits that cause these serious crashes, as it was by idiotic behaviour & not an accident.
