Sandra Gomez new leader WIC

CONI XRACE WinnerSandra Gomez (Spain) and Martin Matyk (Germany) both won the Coni X-Race. With this victory Gomez claims the first spot in the WIC ranking.

It took almost over a week to publish the results of the 19th of August 2007, but at least we have them now. On Sunday the Coni X-race took place in Berlin which was especially organized for the top skaters that couldn't make it to the Worlds in Columbia, for whatever reason. The Spanish Sandra Gomez (Alessi Powerslide) has an excellent form and skates an amazing season, but couldn't manage to attend one or two smaller races in her home country because of the full schedule with World Inline Cup races. For the Spanish federation reason enough not nominate her to Europeans and Worlds. At least she managed to win the Coni X-Race and take over the first position in the WIC ranking. She won in front of her team mate from France, Nathalie Barbotin. The third place went to Michael Neuling (Rollerblade World Team) from Germany.

Also in the men's race the halfmarathon was decided in a pack sprint. Quickest was the German Martin Matyk (Powerslide Phuzion) who also would have loved to go to Columbia but wasn't nominated: "In the beginning I was very frustrated (with the non-nomination) but at least I could show here how strong I am at the moment. Today everything went right." Second was the young Junior-World Champion in the marathon, Peter Michael (Powerslide Phuzion), who already decided early in the season not to attend Worlds this year: "I have lots of years to come to be strong at Worlds, first I want to get better and stronger in the international marathons." And he's more than succeeding. He already won the legendary WIC stage in Engadin. Third was another revelation of this season, the Italian Stefano Galliazzo (Alessi Powerslide).

Sandra Gomez takes over WIC ranking leadership

The fast X-race through the Berlin city last Sunday was one stop of the German Blade Challange (GBC) as well as a World Inline Cup (WIC) stage. The field was not complete because a lot of the elite men and women represent their countries in Cali/Clolombia at the same time to fight for gold, silver and bronce at the world championships.

The race was fast from the beginning. Both, the mens field and also the women field reached the finish line with a big group of skaters as none of the breakaways was successfull due to the high speed of the peleton.

The victory at the mens and women race was won by some frustrated skaters who put all their fury into the race.

Sandra Gomez (Alessi Powerslide) was supposed to skate in Cali / Colombia, but some strange decisions by the spanish federation stoped her dream of gold. She won the sprint in front of her team mate Nathalie Barbotin and Michaela Neuling from Germany. Sandra took over the leadership in the WIC ranking and has great chances to win the title for the first time in her career.

Martin Matyk from team Powerslide Phuzion Germany was also frustrated not being nominated for Colombia. He put all his power into the sprint and won the race in front of young kiwi shootingstar Peter Michael from Powerslide Phuzion World team.
