Less than a month to 2011 season opening in Valencia

The 2011 World Inline Cup, the Official FIRS Roller Marathon Tour, will start with a real highlight: the “Valencia World Inline Cup” on 17 April 2011 on the Formula One street circuit in Spain. More than 5'000 skaters are expected to participate in one of the most spectacular races of the season. Following the traces of the F1 race cars that will return to Valencia in June for the fourth straight year, the international top elite skaters will lead the pack through the famous harbor, venue of the 33rd America's Cup.

Already on Saturday various exhibitions like hockey, artistic and freestyle skating will warm-up the interest of the many spectators before everybody enjoys the official party in the evening. Sundays's program starts with the mass participation race at 10:00 h, one hour before the WIC professionals start the hunt for their share of the 20'000 USD in prize money.

Geisingen 2011 Track Race not included in WIC 2011 Series

The organisers of the 2011 track race in Geisingen decided to feature their event on a standalone basis despite of an existing two-year agreement with the World Inline Cup organisation.

Please note that this does not affect the overall WIC Season Ranking 2011, because as a track-event Geisingen was not part of the overall WIC ranking to determine the winners of the Season Race, with a forthcoming minimum 8 road races around the Globe.

World Inline Cup

Valencia Welcomes International Inline Elite

A selection of the world's best Inline Skaters are gathering for the first time in 2011 at a World Inline Cup event when this Sunday the TOP Class race takes off at 11:00 a.m. In the women's race it seems to be as if the stage is set for another exciting head-to-head between the defending World Inline Cup Champion Giovanna Turchiarelli (Alessi World) from Italy and New Zealand's star athlete Nicole Begg (X-tech MPC-International).

Nicole starts her quest to be on top of the ranking in Spain's third largest city after being hold back by injuries in the last 3 years. Now the World Inline Cup is her priority. She won 11 medals at World Championships with some of them being gold, but it will be anything but easy already in the first race: last year’s number one Giovanna Turchiarelli will be the girl to beat in the capital of the autonomic Province of Valencia.

The 27-year-old Italian has won the Official FIRS Roller Marathon Tour in 2010 after finishing first at the prestigious Berlin event and the final in Buenos Aires. Before in Chuncheon, Korea, Nicole was first to cross the finish line in a thrilling sprint decision far ahead of the pack, but can she repeat it again this weekend? Or is Renata Karabova (IDEEprint-EOSKATES) from Slovakia - fifth of the 2010 World Inline Cup Ranking - finally taking advantage of the situation? This way or the other we are looking forward to an exciting event as the weather report is promising perfect conditions for athletes and spectators alike.

I've Landed

Nicole Begg (Apr. 13, 2011)
I have arrived safely in Europe and am currently in Paris awaiting a connecting flight to Valencia, Spain. The World Inline Cup marathon in Valencia around the F1 street circuit will be my first event in Europe this season.

Currently I'm looking forward to arriving at the hotel and hitting the bed as I have currently been travelling for about two days. I thought I was seeing things at the airport in Paris when a mouse ran around my bags, but I'm not delirious just yet it was real and alive unfortunately.
