WIC Margarita 2009

Big Final in Margarita

It's going to be thrilling. The last race of the WORLD INLINE CUP 2009 taking place in Margarita/Venezuela is not decided yet. Yann Guyader, as well as Diego Rosero, can win the palm of the overall leader of one of the most important worldwide inline race series. And who will be on the following positions, will stay an exiting question, too. As to the ladies the victory of the predominant leader Cecilia Baena is clear, but the fights for the places on the winners' rostrum still go on.

Sunshine, a wonderful beach and inline skating - a perfect scenery for the big final of the WORLD INLINE CUP 2009. The events for the end of season of the inline professionals will be organized in Margarita for the first time. The Caracola Beach will certainly be a perfect location for the important 42 km race. Races start with the sprint competitions on the urban circuit of Margarita on Saturday 30th October and go on 1st November with the decisive marathon. The very fact that eight TV teams and more than 20 newspapers will be on site reporting about the race shows that the media pay much attention to this important event.

Three days inline skating at its best

1st November WORLD INLINE CUP in Margarita

The countdown is progressing and only in a few days the most important inline race of this season will start. The venue of the final race of the WORLD INLINE CUP is the Venezuelan isle Margarita. More than 20 television and radio stations as well as news agencies will report about the event where over 300 of the world’s best inline skaters take part. And not only temperatures are hot with about 33°C, many parties, enthusiastic spectators and a race track on the road along the beach let you have “Caribbean dreams”.

Dramatic final in Margarita: Rosero victorious!

Caribbean weather, a tropical scenery and temperatures of more than 30°C at 9 a.m., this presented extreme conditions for the WORLD INLINE CUP final. Diego Rosero drove the race of his life and so became the winner in Margarita as well as the overall winner in 2009. In the ladies’ race Kelly Martinez emerged victorious, but the overall winner is Cecilia Baena.

The athletes had to do 19 laps on the 2.2 kilometres circuit. As during the whole season, the women’s race was dominated by the Bont-Girls as well as by the ladies of the Powerslide Matter World Team. Shortly before they had done half of the track, Kelly Martinez (COL/Bont Wheels Team), Giovanna Turchiarelli (ITA/Powerslide Matter World) Team) and Sindy Cortez (VEN) made a successful attempt to break away. But Giovanna wasn’t able to keep the speed and fell back. Thus the two other ladies ran a solitary race. The experience made the difference and Cindy Cortez was left standing with regard to an experienced Kelly Martinez. However, the young skater Cortez, starting for the host country, can be proud of her excellent race.

The men’s race was an absolute showdown between the overall leader Yann Guyader (FRA/Powerslide Matter World Team) and Diego Rosero (COL/Rollerblade World Team). From the beginning the race was incredibly fast and Yann Guyader remained at the wheel with his Powerslide Matter World Team. The new formed Schaenkel-Team with Joey Mantia (USA) and Massi Presti (ITA) resisted heavily. But then, shortly before half of the race was over, Diego Rosero, broke through the top flight. Nobody was able to follow him! In an incredible heat and with heavy headwind sometimes, he made a solitary race, but the race of his life and even could take some minutes from his pursuers, the world’s best skaters. Moreover, on the last metres he lapped the field and turned out to be the great winner of the day in a race dominated by world-class athletes.

With this victory he altered the ranking in the WORLD INLINE CUP, too and displaced the present leader Guyader to position two in the overall ranking, who became 4th behind Presti and Mantia.

Thus a thrilling WIC-season 2009 has come to its end in the Caribbean. It was celebrated with a hot “End of season party” till dawn. We already look forward to the next season 2010 which certainly is going to be interesting. News will follow soon.

Will achieve sensational 5th Rank at the World Inline Cup in the Caribbean

by Karl Otto (Nov. 1, 2009) Translated by Google.com
The Vaduz Andre Wille scored with a brilliant line and the resulting 5th Rank his best ever result at a World Inline Cup race. With an attack is 4 km before the end, he secured this top result.

André WilleLast Sunday took place on the Caribbean island of Margarita, near Caracas, the final of the World Inline Cup 2009. With this also the Liechtenstein skaters André will print from the IDEA-tech X-World team. Approximately 180 skaters from 16 nations were present at the last stop of this year's World Tour at the start. At 37 ° and a huge hot air humidity had to be a tour with a small increase of 2.2 kilometers x 19 will be completed.

Will that has been since last Wednesday I placed the World Cup in a caravan Baderessort in Polamara and could prepare themselves in high summer conditions, was at this competition, of course, once again pull out a good result. Although it is the season for him since late September, he nevertheless was actually already finished top motivated at the start line and took the 42 km with the worlds best skaters in the attack.

Shortly after the start and the pace has been greatly strengthened and repeatedly attacks were launched. 6 skaters were resolved after 3 rounds by the peloton. At this time it ran for Will and his team are far from optimal. He fought with heavy and tired legs and from his team, no one could be positioned in the breakaway group. The distance between the melted on top 4 riders quartet was getting bigger. After six laps the pace in the peloton but was again Elevated various attacks and demanded his victims. Again and again the driver fell back from the peloton and dwindled to 40 skaters. Will did the only right and tried to relax as much as possible in the field tend to have optimally. Two laps to go out alone will attack from the peloton. Nobody in the field could not or would respond to his attack and his lead grew steadily. With an enormous effort he saved his lead to the finish and not credible, shaking his head over the crossing, he reached the finish line as sensational 5th With this result will of his previous sporting climax achieved. Venezuela appears to him to be a good patch. At the 2003 World Championships was 13th in the World Cup Marathon

With this result will be improved at the same time before the season is not possible to hold 12th Final ranking in the official World Inline Cup ranking.

The daily as well as overall victory belongs to the Colombian Diego Rosero.

"I'm just overjoyed with this result, in the last kilometers as I was traveling alone so many things I went through my head ... just Ingenious. My team did a great job where I was a perfect day but had to work hard. "Thus, an overwhelming desire for the race. With this result is for him a very successful season to an end. The 7th Rank in Korea and the 5th Rank on Sunday in Venezuela, he scored 2 top 10 results on the World Cup. The other can be recorded to the Vaduz semi victories and podiums in China, Liechtenstein and Switzerland and show several other top ten results in international competitions. This great season is to celebrate Will and his team still with a pair of bathing days, and certainly due to one or another drink at the poolside bar.

Diego king of the World Inline Cup

by Vincent Esnault (Nov. 3, 2009)
Thanks to the victory in Margarita, Diego Rosero won the overall of the WIC 2009. It was the fourth victory in a WIC marathon this season for the Colombian! And it is the first time Diego takes the top title. Photo from WIC website.

Colombian season over the World Inline Cup: Cecilia Baena (Powerslide) and Diego Rosero (Rollerblade World) captured the WIC titles 2009. Diego won fourth marathons and finished with one point over Yann Guyader (Powerslide), his best opponent.

Diego was still second of the provisional ranking before this last stage in Venezuela. There was a gap of 34 points between the French and the Colombian. But under very hot temperatures and a wet atmosphere, Diego managed to achieve "the race of his life": he escaped at mid-race, and was not chased down. He closed the marathon in 1h06, one minute before his followers.

Diego made a single race, but drove it perfectly. For one rare time this season, Guyader was supported by his Italian team mates Francolini and Cuncu, but they were not able to catch the Colombian back. With a fourth place behind Massi Presti (Luigino) and Joey Mantia (Schänkel), Guyader did not scored enough to keep his WIC title...

And Diego captured it for one single point. Some big crowns have sometimes to be conquered with so few. But it is the coronation of a very intensive work!
