SsangYong SURSEE WIC 2007

Switzerland. 621 years ago Sempach was the place where a wild battle took place between the Confederates and the Habsburgs. Today a totally different crowd attacks once a year at the lake of Sempach: the 6000 participants of the Sursee World Inline Cup. This year will be very special, because the biggest Inline marathon within Switzerland celebrates its 10th anniversary!

Sursee [1] - Precap

We’ve taken a drive around the course and it looks like most of the course is downhill. Of course, what goes down must come up? Well, there are a few long uphill sections but they aren’t very steep so hopefully they won’t be much trouble. There’s a tunnel at about the half way point on the course where you veer off the main road (left turn) onto a tight side road that turns sharply (left again) under and old bridge. Apparently in 2005 Tristan Loy crashed into the wall of the tunnel and did some serious damage to his shoulder…. this will really be a place to take care.

There’s still about 6 hours before we start racing and everyone is out looking for food or just wandering. I figured that I should write something since I haven’t updated in about a week (not that it’s my fault!). The guy downstairs finally started moving and disconnected his phone/internet so we’ve been without for the week. We finally got it all hooked up and working but we left just as it came online.

I have been meaning to update with something on Dijon and Zurich but haven’t gotten around to it. It’s funny that when you have a good race you have lots to say and when your race isn’t that great there isn’t a lot to say Dijon and Zurich didn’t go well for me (Zurich really didn’t go well) but I will write something better later.

The room I’m in has just been invaded by 6 girls and I’ve been instructed to go do something… until later.

SURSEE World Inline Cup (SIC) Results

Joey Mantia (Luigino USA) 余裕の連続優勝。上位から消えた Sportvital Rollerblade とは対照的に Bont Hyper Team が本来の実力を発揮して上位に名を連ねました。

Joey Mantia (Luigino USA) did it again! He dominated like the week before at the Zurich World Inline Cup the race and won also in Sursee. The incredible thing of this history: Mantia crashed hardly about ten kilometers before the finish, but catched the pack again. Second got the Italian Luca Saggiorato (Bont Hyper) right in front of his team mate Massimiliano Presti.
At the women's race, the winner of the Zurich World Inline Cup, Giovanna Turchiarelli (Alessi Powerslide World) got second right behind Sandra Gomez (Alessi Powerslide World). Nicole Begg (SsangYong Jesa Bont) got third.

Hi Skaters,

Sandra Gomez Alessi Powerslide & Joey Mantia Lugino USA win the Sursee WIC race.

A hard weekend for the Sportvital Rollerblade World Team

It was a difficult race and difficult weekend for the Sportvital Rollerblade World teams in both the men’s race and the ladies race. Both races ended up in a final sprint where in the men’s race Sportvital Rollerblade World got boxed behind and was unable to make their sprint for the line. The first Sportvital Rollerblade World team member for the men was Juan Nayib Tobon in 20th place. In the ladies race the Sportvital Rollerblade World team ladies were spread out in the sprint finish. Catherine Penan took the right side of the road; Tamara Llorens was in the middle and Laura Lardani completely on the left. Each lady made their own sprint and crossing the line first for the ladies team was Laura Lardani in sixth place.

Sursee, a fast race

(Nederlandse vertaling volgt zo spoedig mogelijk) by Karlo.

Last saturday was the 7th edition of the world inline cup in Sursee, Switserland. Two laps of 21 km around lake of Sursee. The race started at 17.40 with all the big teams at the start including world champion marathon and winner of Zurich Wic Joey Mantia.

The race started amazingly fast and the speed was high as not before in the world cup this season, attack after attack and the break aways did not last for a long time.

Ronan and Karlo went with all the break aways in the first lap and because of the speed there was no break away after 21 k.
Photo from INLINEFOTOS.CH

The second lap was a little slower than the first lap and everybody was tired from attacking and with 10 k to go the teams were preparing for a final sprint. With 3 k to go two skaters did a break away and one of them was Alexis Contin of powerslide and they were caught by the sprinting pack 300 meters before the finish line.

Karlo and Ronan finished 32nd and 35 and they did a good race but missed their team mates in the final sprint and this made it hard to fight against the teams with 5 skaters.

Gary had to stop the race after one lap because of problems with the feet and Timmerman Powerslide had also a guest races with them: Ted Ooievaar. He finished at a 62 place and he had a hard race to keep up with the speed and finished at the end of the pack.

Shinki and Mark did not race because of the Asian championships and mark did a dutch track race for preparation of the trials for the european championship on the 3rd and 4th of July. (Jun. 25, 2007)
