Scott Jones to Step Down as Head of A2A After 2011 Season
As we approach our 30th annual A2A skate, we are also approaching a new chapter in the continuation of this event. After serving for 6 years as the leader and event planner of the A2A, Scott Jones has announced that he will be stepping down after the event this October 2011. Scott has kept the event going during very difficult times as the skaters participating in A2A, has gone from close to 800 to the 145 we had in October 2010. Through his leadership, the Atlanta Peachtree RoadRollers have continued to produced one the the finest, as well as the longest running, outdoor road skating event in the world.
In making this announcement now, Scott is hoping that someone, or a group, will step up to learn from him what it takes to put this skate together and take over the leadership role that will take A2A into the future with the same quality of event that we have had for so many skaters, for so many years. The core volunteer group is in place, but a new leader and director will be greatly needed to move A2A beyond 2011.
For those of you who have been away for a while, come see us in October. Be part of our long history as we celebrate not only the 30th anniversary of the Athens to Atlanta Road Skate, but to thank Scott for his years as our leader. We will see you in October!

One of The Greatest Outdoor Endurance Athletic Events in the World is ramping up for SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2011 – THE THIRTIETH ANNUAL ATHENS-TO-ATLANTA. That’s three decades of endurance skating history and we want you to be a part of it.
A2A is proud to announce K2 SKATES ( http://www.k2skates.com ) as the PRESENTING SPONSOR for this, the 30th annual Athens-to-Atlanta. At 87-miles, A2A is the longest and oldest continuously operating point-to-point outdoor skating ultra-marathon in the world!
As someone who has skated A2A in the past, thank you for past participation and support! If you know of others who haven’t participated, what are you waiting for?! Pass the word and bring a friend.
With 38-mile, 52-mile (double marathon), or 87-mile options – we offer distances and camaraderie for everyone including: seasoned pros, hockey players, twirl-girls, freestyle skaters and night skate dire-hards. There are only two things you have to do: register, and be at the Starting Line in Athens at 7:30 AM – sharp – on Sunday, October 9th. I have and hope to see you there.
For planning purposes, we need to know if you are coming – as soon as possible. Lots of things depend on the number of participants, so if you plan to attend, PLEASE REGISTER BY AUGUST 15th (we've got buses to rent, t-shirts to order, mugs to make, and Police to schedule so please get registered ASAP!):

Changes for the 2011 Event
(Updated Sep. 20 2011)The following changes will be necessary this year:
- Due to a conflicting event, and to save on expenses, the finish line is being relocated to the Fourth Ward Skate Park, 830 Willoughby Way, Atlanta, GA 30312. Course changes have been finalized and will be available soon. Update: Per Henry, we expect the course length to be about the same (still 87 miles).
- Due to lower attendance and to reduce expenses, Sunday buses are cancelled, and bus fees collected so far for Sunday will be refunded. We are attempting to have volunteers available to deliver skaters to their destination, but we cannot guarantee that you will be picked up. You should be prepared to call a taxi or take Greyhound Bus if needed. Atlanta: Checker Cab 404-351-1111, Athens: Your Cab Co.: 706-546-5844, Dacula: Gwinnett Taxi 770-963-6963, Greyhound bus: 800-231-2222, Groome Transportation limo in Athens: 706-410-2363
- The Friday night bus will leave as usual on Friday at 9:00 p.m. from Skate Escape at Piedmont and 12th.
- The pre-skate expo and Henry's rant are moved to the South Hall of the Classic Center. Previously we were in the North Hall. The roll-up door is not available to us due to road construction. You will have to use the upstairs entrance from Thomas Street. You must remove your skates when entering, but you will be allowed to skate in South Hall once you get down there.
