Good bye WIC 2010 - Welcome WIC 2011

(Dec. 19, 2010)
WORLD INLINE CUPEven if it is still winter in Europe, many athletes are longing for the season start of the World Inline Cup 2011. And it isn’t very far away. In the meantime let’s wet your appetite for an attractive and quite ambitious season. Here is the good news in a nutshell:
  1. The WIC Race Calendar 2011 features a guaranteed 12 and a maximum of 15 attractive events.

  2. A new fee structure with an annual WIC license fee of USD 50 for athletes and USD 100 for teams.

  3. Registration fee USD 50 per athlete and race; no additional fees for the teams.

  4. The total payout for WIC athletes will be increased, with prize money for 20 men (instead of 7 as before) and 15 women (instead of 5).

  5. Well tuned calendar and cooperation with the new Swiss Inline Cup (SIC) promoter who will announce their annual program within short, and respectively the German Inline Cup (GIC) in their fourth year (see separate announcement). Both national series will feature two combined WIC/national events.

  6. Improved and more frequent communication within the WIC/SIC/GIC community, with a refreshed website for all our series and a continued growth and exchange within the WIC community on Facebook.
All of these news are based on a strong team and network of event organisers who, despite the still difficult economic conditions have supported us through good and difficult time. You will notice that the fee structure has been reduced again, allowing piecemeal registration for athletes and teams without foregoing the benefits of a central WIC organisation team and registration with the IGUANA administration. The details and registration instructions will be included in the updated Rule Book to be published in the beginning of January.

Most important, however, are the Events themselves and their proper organisation. Regarding this issue, we have been disappointed with certain events that did not fulfil our expectations or were even cancelled at short notice. In the present calendar, we have included only WIC events for which we have the necessary representations from the organisers. You will notice, that besides three great Top Class events in Asia (China, Korea Republic, Taiwan), all other officially announced events are in Europe, many of them classics and some newcomers such as Geisingen and Cologne, Tartu and Valencia. Latin America is not on the agenda right now, we still hope that we shall be presented with a viable project for one or two events in Colombia.

Finally, we would like to convey to you our confirmed and positive outlook for the inline sport in general and the World Inline Cup in particular. We had increased participation in various races 2010, a renewed - and stronger than ever - cooperation with important National Federations in Europe and overseas. We enjoy a stable financial structure at the WIC organisation that allows us to plan a cautious growth in our main markets. The past two years with the collapse of important organisers (notably SIC Promotor Event-e-Motion AG, Inline 111, German Blade Challenge) were not only negative - this situation has allowed new initiatives to develop. It is our strong believe that with a united community made up of the world’s top skaters and recreational athletes, the industry and team managements, organisers, host cities, sponsors and the media alike, we have all the odds on our side for a solid, healthy growth. IGUANA and the World Inline Cup are ready and willing to take the initiative, to spearhead the sport, also for the media and a broader public.

Merry Christmas to all and happy new year!

Tentative WIC Race Calendar in 2011

Season start 2011

Even if it is still winter in Europe, more green than white, many athletes are longing for the season start of the World Inline Cup 2011. And it isn't very far away. But before we will meet for the first race in this year, we give you some important information about the events, about ourselves, the registration and some more, which you can soon find on our website, too.

Economical situation?
The economic environment is still challenging, the recovery slow. Many of our sponsors, partners and event organizers have suffered and have been forced to take countermeasures. In spite of all difficulties we – together with our friends - have succeeded in drawing up a unique race calendar for 2011. The sense of excitement about the future of the WIC is greater than ever. The whole team together with our friends all over the world really live for this sport, its team spirit and fair play, and they will do everything possible for the inline community. Look at our websites: there is plenty of information, news, rules, photos and sometimes a bit tittle-tattle. Write us what you think, post your blog – our desire is to be an open platform for the scene!

Since this year the race calendar is published not only on the respective sites of the Swiss Inline Cup, the German Inline Cup and, of course the World Inline Cup, but in Facebook as well, the most important community site in the worldwide web, there we have created a fast growing group called “World Inline Cup”, which already has more than 1'300 members. Log in and you will have the most current information on your personal facebook account. Thus you don’t have to look out for information but will receive it directly on your computer, mobile or smartphone. Of course our news on the homepage will still remain the official communication means, but since it is published periodically, you can stay tuned much quicker through our continuous updates on the WIC homepage or through our facebook group.

Here are the latest information about the race calendar and certain alterations:
  • Geisingen (GER) celebrates a spectacular WIC seasonal opening in one of the most beautiful inline race tracks as a WIC track race on 09 April

  • Incheon (KOR) presents again his traditional Top Class race at the seaside

  • Valencia (ESP) will be one of our WIC highlights this year with a race on the Formula 1 course (!)

  • Haining (CHN) will celebrate again unforgetable race days

All in all the 2011 calendar comprises 9 WIC races, where of 4 TOP CLASS and minimum 5 Class 1 races. Additional events are under negotiation and we shall keep you posted as soon as these are confirmed as well. Our events spread over two continents and seven countries, and offer spectacular events and a World Inline Cup season that is unprecedented.

Registration
Even in the virtual world the World Inline Cup cannot do without a certain paperwork. But no fear, we try to make it as simple as possible for you. Questions about organizational issues, fees, team size, amenities, alternatives for team and single licences have occurred. This is why we want to give you some further information below.

Due to the current financial and economical situation, every enterprise and private person has to save money and reduce costs. This is a must and also applies to the inline industry as well as to the teams, the sponsors and the promoters. On the other hand, IGUANA continues to invest into the growth of the inline sport and its public appeal, and making every possible attempt to support the WIC athletes and events. Thus, we have reduced the registration fees despite a considerable stability of racing opportunities. Your license fee remains an important contribution to financing the WIC organization, its promotion, TV production and internet presence prize money bonus pool, medals, authorizations, federation support etc. A priority for 2011 and the years to follow is our media presence. A widely improved relationship with the media and, thus growing media presence of the inline sport is crucial for the benefit of the sport, the athletes and teams, the industry as well as to enlarge the sponsor pool.

In order to cope with the current financial situation and to give the teams means to reduce their costs, we have decided to adapt the registration fees for WIC single atheletes and teams in 2010 as follows:

Athlete's registration (men and women):
annual fee: registration and license as a WIC athlete Euro 50.00 (plus VAT)

handling cost: Euro 15.00 (plus VAT) covering administration and registration

race registration: Euro 50.00 per single race participation

team registration: Euro 100.00 per team for the complete WIC season

The updated Rulebook will be posted in the next few days, reflecting the adaptations in fee structure and registration system.
