8月28日、WIC Gdansk が初開催されます。グダニスクは ポーランド民主化運動の時に知った地名ですが、どこだか場所は知りませんでした。コースは悪路の上、レース当日は激しい雨に見舞われ、参加選手は大変だったようです。
World Inline Cup Gdansk Gdańsk (formerly Danzig), is a city on the Baltic coast in northern Poland, at the centre of the country's fourth-largest metropolitan area.
Gdańsk is Poland's principal seaport as well as the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is also historically the largest city of the Kashubian region to the former late medieval/modern boundary between West Slavic and Germanic lands and it has a complex political history with periods of Polish rule, periods of German rule, and extensive self-rule, with two spells as a free city. It has been part of modern Poland since 1945.
The city lies on the southern edge of Gdańsk Bay (of the Baltic Sea).
Gdańsk is situated at the mouth of the Motlawa River, connected to the Leniwka, a branch in the delta of the nearby Vistula River, whose waterway system supplies 60% of the area of Poland and connects Gdańsk to the national capital in Warsaw. This gives the city a unique advantage as the centre of Poland's sea trade.
The city was the birthplace of the Solidarity movement which, under the leadership of political activist Lech Wałęsa, played a major role in bringing an end to Communist rule across Central Europe.

Interview with Nicolas Iten(Aug. 30, 2010) «We have to skate as a team!»Nicolas Iten has been involved in the Rollerblade World Team for many seasons before switching for the Luigino Rollerblade Team in 2010. He naturally became one of the two leaders of this Swiss team with his compatriot Severin Widmer. The team approached the first half of the international season with many good results (see above)! It was time to have an overview on the situation before the last big races …
What do you think of the first part of your season?
I was satisfied about the way I started the season. Although I was never on the podium at the World Iinline Cup races, I was working hard so that either Severin [Widmer] or me could win the race. Severin managed to be on the podium at most of the races in a breakaway group and I was really happy for him, because we don’t care about who finally stands at the top of the ranking, we skate as a team. At some races, I was just a little disappointed because whereas I attacked and worked a lot during the race, the other teams did not play the game. If I were in the breakaway, they wouldn’t work, because they would want a bunch sprint. However, as I said, I feel really strong and Severin too, and we already reached the goal of the season, to take 5 podiums at the WIC.
What does that mean to you to be part of a Swiss team?
It makes me really proud to take part in an international team. But times have changed and I am still happy to skate in one of the strongest team in the world, regardless if there are four Swiss or international skaters. By the way, I know my teammates really good: before switching for the Rollerblade World team, my current teammates were already skating in my team with Johnny Diethelm as the coach. In the Rollerblade World team, I was happy that everybody was free to skate the way he wanted: there were no strict rules. Everybody could take its chance, if he knew that he was able to win the race. The changing to a pure Swiss team didn’t change that much, only that Severin and me are the leaders, and Michael, Timon, Yanick and Alex have to do more work at the beginning and before the finish.
What is your main goal in 2010?
Unfortunately, there were only two Swiss Inline Cup races this year and we had a break for about 6 weeks! To achieve my goal of having a minimum of one podium at the World Cup, you can be dead certain that I will give my best for the last four races of the season. But as I mentioned, we have to skate as a team and, at the end, the name of the skater is not that important. It is the name of the team that counts most!
The World Inline Cup of Berlin is coming soon… It might be one of your favourite races. Is it a competition that you planed to prepare more carefully?
I am very, very proud to have won that race three years ago. It is the dream of every skater to win that race, because it is one of the favourite races of the skaters. Generally, I prefer hard races with uphills, corners, rough roads, and Berlin is different. But at the end of the season, some skaters have more energy left than others, and that is my advantage. I didn’t really plan to have my best shape of the season at that race, because there are still other races that are important too. I feel confident to make the race hard for everybody, though... And finally, I may end up on the podium!
3 podiums in 2 races for the Luigino Rollerblade Team! One week ago, Severin Widmer captured the silver in the X-Race of Berlin and Nicolas finished 5th: (the X-Race is part of the German Inline Cup, one of the four inline races which are scheduled in Berlin each year).
This last Saturday, the team obtained its best results of the season: Severin captured a prestigious victory in Gdansk (Poland), for the 10th stage of the World Inline Cup. Nicolas finished second of that marathon! Quite a perfect weekend for the Swiss team!
