No big surprise so far with the local Chinese Taipei skaters really taking advantage of their home track. Also in men the Colombians are looking good for a medal. Also the track world champion 300m of 2008, Kalon Dobbin is leaving some gas in the tank for later tonight. As I said anything can still happen although Wei Lin Lo is pretty far away from 2nd and 3rd... Stay tuned for updates on results.
Daiskating: World Games 300m TT Heat (Photos) 300m Time Trial Final Resultsby Wouter Hebbrecht (Jul. 17, 2009) Hi everyone,A rather disappointing day today at World Games for me not getting further than a 6th spot on the 300m TT. I know this track here in Kaohsiung is not really one of my favorites but yet you always hope to surprise yourself and exceed your expectations....didn't happen today so we will have to see. The good thing about yesterday is that except for Wei Lo, who is from another planet BTW, my opening 1oo m was still one of the fastest around. That's a good sign for the European and World Championships where apparently the tracks are a little better for "power skaters." The long races were pretty brutal to skate. I think skating with the top 15 long distance skaters in the world expect for a few top guys missing this was a hard demonstration of what it could be like at Worlds. Belgians Ferre and Kwinten did pretty good and hopefully they can finish even closer in the elimination. The final results of yesterday's day one of the World Games:

FFRoller's WORLD GAMES 09 - Day 1![]() World Games Updateby Nicole Begg (Jul. 18, 2009) Last night I raced in my first race at the World Games and my first race since my accident in Heerde. It was the 10km points elimination race and I ended up finishing third. It started raining half way through the race and it was not called off by the officials so the track was very slippery. The winner Hyo Sook Woo and second place getter Marta Ramirez ended up breaking away when the rain started and gaining a lot of points. I was basically left solo at the front of the dwindled pack trying to chase them down and only caught Marta with a few laps to go.Roller Girl: Nicole Begg: World Games Update PE 10000m Women FinalDaiskating: World Games 300m TT Final and 10000m Point Elimination Final (Photos)
Go to the "World Games Day 2" PageWorld Games Kaohsiungby Wouter Hebbrecht (Jul. 7, 2009) Finally it's that time of the year where I will get to see old familiar faces, friends and fellow competitors. It’s the first championship of the year: World Games. City where it will all take place is Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its not my first time going to Taiwan. In 2005 Taiwan organized their first and unfortunately up to date, their last WIC. I was fortunate enough to go there and compete and enjoy the wonderful country and people of Taiwan. My second trip was in May this year, where I flew to Kaohsiung to get to know the track we will be skating on for this edition of the World Games. World Games are similar to the Olympic championships but than for sports that are not included into the Olympics. The last edition of the World Games was in Duisburg, Germany. I came out early to Kaohsiung in conquest for a podium spot since this may very well be the last World Games I will compete in. Since I am 29 and these Games only take place every 4 year I have reason to believe I will be competing in them for the last time. The first step in preparing for races is to get used to the track. Some of the other challenges are getting over a jet leg, finding good food and other things. The jet leg in this particular case is a hard one. Coming from the US the time difference is pretty big (about 14 hours). There are two solutions to this problem: 1 is you arrive at the site and immediately start to pick up your normal life or 2 you can fly in late at night and get some sleep the very first day in. Out of personal experience I know I prefer to fly in late at night and get a full night of sleep in before I start day one. That’s why I got in at around 10 pm local time to go straight to the hotel and sleep. Too bad the Airline I flew with had to mess up this plan; I took of from Tokyo's Narita Airport to find out the plane had problems with the navigation instruments. Result is that we turned around and came back in. About 3 hours later we tried to do it all over again and this time we made it all the way to Kaohsiung. Unfortunately I didn't get to the hotel until about 1 a.m. local time to crash... This morning I finished my first session on the track and I am pretty satisfied. Considering I just spend a long time travelling I felt pretty comfortable on my skates. The weather however is extremely hot and humid but I don't really mind since I have enough time to acclimate. I will keep you guys updated on the progress of everything and will post some pictures soon. This is the list of people that will compete in World GamesInline Skating Notebook: The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung (Dec. 27, 2008) WORLD GAMES LIVE STREAMING!by Bill Begg (Jul. 9, 2009) Hi Skaters, The 30 available top skaters list has now been finalized & in a weeks time the WORLD GAMES will get under way in KAOHSIUNG CHINESE TAIPEI, the speed skating the 17th, 18th & 19th July. A Glimmer of hope for Speedskating for Olympic Inclusion, there will be official live streaming of only 4 sports & SPEED SKATING is one of them, so at the World games a very big plus for our sport. This is the Olympics for the non Olympic sports, but its where we do not help ourselves, with many replacements called in, Its also not an even playing field, as where as at Worlds in track events, each country can only have two starters, where as, with some countries having up to 5 being able to start in events, where as at Worlds only 2 per country can start, so having 3 or 4 in the long events is a very big advantage. Colombia 9, with 4 men & 5 Women & Italy & Korea with 7 each are the biggest country contingents. But it should be a great competition, its nothing short of a Sham that Sara Sayasane is the only USA skater present, as there Inline to Ice programm & their indoor championships are seen as greater priorities by some people, please do not let me hear any grizzles from the USA about a negative Olympic Inclusion result, if it occurs. Bont Skates Message Board and News: WORLD GAMES LIVE STREAMING! Kaohsiung Track Picturesby Wouter Hebbrecht (Jul. 10, 2009) Hi everyone!Been a few days in Taiwan now and I am slowly getting used to the heat. The track on the other hand is another beast to tame; the local skaters look really smooth and are going pretty fast so that doesn't make our job any easier. In the meantime the NZ. squad has arrived with Kalon Dobbin, DJ Nation and Nicole Begg. The testing of wheels and clocking of times is slowly getting under its way...exciting and fascinating as always. Fastest time clocked so far is 16.00 from the local Wei Lin Lo aka "Silk" and he is proving every single day why he has that nickname... There is some word on a new timing system that would work like the timing system used at the Olympics by Tissot. The main issue with that system is that they do not use beams but a horizontal area and I am not sure how accurate and sensitive these systems are...they will put a sensor in the track and not have the traditional beam that is set up x amount of cm of the ground (see CIC rules....). Nobody knows how close you can get to the line on the ground for it to set off...hopefully they will do some accurate testing before deciding to go ahead and use this kind of system.... Anyway i promised you guys some pictures of the track that is slowly starting to look like a competition venue... OH BOY....Typhoon coming to town!by Wouter Hebbrecht (July 15, 2009) Hi Everyone,While skaters are decending down into Kaoshiung the clowds are forming. Word is a Typhoon is moving its way up here. This must be a pretty similar experience the athletes go through at Olympics allthough those stadiums are twice the size of this one. アメリカ不在は残念です。オリンピック種目に成ったとしても、7年後の2016年。だとすればイタリアのように、出場枠を将来性ある選手が使って、経験積むのも良い事だと思います。 |
