World Record Team 2008
Rafael Mittenzwei and Anthony Dross will try to break the current Guinness Book record of the 24h Skate World Record 543,594 km in Groß-Gerau Rink, starting time at 18:00pm on Friday 15th August 2008.
The rules followed by Mr. Silker can be expained by Jonathan Seutter, Chairman of the Skating World Records Committee, and a past holder of such records, who is the recorder of skating records except those recorded by FIRS.
The requirements, in summary:
Have a course measured by a certified surveyor, following the highest professional standards, with the survey documented such as to be acceptable in a court of law.
The entire event must be monitored by a high level official, perferably one certified to referee an international skating competition. Perhaps an official certified at the highest level for a national championships in your country would be adequate, or a very high level official for a similar IOC sport, such as cycling or running.
Each lap time must be recorded by 3 different observers (one could be a chip timing machine). The watches used must be certified accurate to the highest standards by an authority acceptable to IOC, or a sports federation recognized by it.
The skating must be solo. There may be no drafting or pacing.
Doping/drug testing must be done per WADA standards.
The event must be reported by media which is well accepted as credible by the public in the region.
The record is officially recognized only after it's documentation has been reviewed by SWRC.

Roller skating is not a big deal. There are hundreds of records of men and women all over the world roller skating long distances. But Rafael Mittenzwei has done something really different. He has travelled a distance of 208.4 kms in just about 24 hours. The only catch is that he was roller skating backwards.
Rafael Mittenzwei achieved the amazing feat in a record time. He was roller skating backwards in the German town of Gross-Gerau.
Mr. Rafael Mittenzwei was initially joined by another roller skater in this feat but the other skater had to pull out after he developed a problem with his feet.
He started roller skating at night from his local sports club Blau-Gelb in Gross-Gerau, to the south of Frankfurt.
Mr. Rafael Mittenzwei said that the Guinness Book of Records had set them the challenge of roller skating at least 200 kms backwards within 24 hours. This meant roller skating the track for 658 laps. He managed to roller skate 685 laps of the track backwards (208.4 kms).

STORY:
A German man set a new world skating record on Saturday (August 16), but with a twist. Rafael Mittenzwei managed to skate 208.4 kilometres in 24 hours in the German town of Gross-Gerau, but the whole time he was travelling backwards.
Originally Mittenzwei was to be accompanied by a fellow skater, but he had to pull out after suffering problems with his feet.
Mittenzwei skated through the night from Friday (August 15) to Saturday at their local sports club Blau-Gelb in Gross-Gerau, which lies south of Frankfurt.
"The Guinness Book of Records set us the challenge of skating at leat 200 kilometres backwards in 24 hours. This would have meant 658 laps of the track. We managed 685 laps which is 208.4 kilometres, which means we have secured a place in the Guinness Book of Records," Mittenzwei said.
The skater was cheered on by family and friends as he put his name into the record books.
Although he was allowed to take short breaks during the record attempt, Mittenzwei told Reuter that is was a real challenge.
"The night was ok, it was unfortunately very cold. We would have liked warmer temperatures. But apart from slight pain from pressure on my feet, the whole 24 hours went wonderfully well. Now I am exhausted and am looking forward to a bath and my bed," Mittenzwei told Reuters after finishing the marathon backwards skate.
The idea originated from Mittenzwei and his friends who hada lot of time filming skaters, which meant that they had to skate backwards to catch them on camera. He then decided to try and set a world record in 24 hour backwards skating.
At the same time as Mittenzwei's record attempt on Saturday, another skater at the sports club failed to break the record for 24 hour forward skating due to injury.
