Le P'tit Train du Nord 94 km of the Ottawa Inline Skating Club

Le P'tit Train du Nord is an old railroad converted into a 200KM path meandering through the beautiful Laurentian countryside, with a 93.5 KM section from Labelle to Mont Laurier paved in 2003. This trail is ideal for inline skating as the railroad has smooth asphalt and a maximum grade of 6 degrees.

Our club is is doing an overnight trip to P'tit Train on August 16th/17th, we welcome anyone who wants to do some nice distance skating...the park patrolers may demand that you buy a $5 day pass, but beyond that the main expense is getting there and the lodging over night. If you want to find out more just email: social@inlineottwa.com (or me...president@inlineottawa.com)

You can see more details about the trail here.

by the way, there is a certain travel company that charges skaters thousands of dollars to do this trail and nearby Montreal, if you can get to Ottawa and pay for your hotel room over night...your in!

Q and A

Le P'tit Train du Nord
  1. Do cell phones work in that area
cell phones work at most of the major rest stops; labell, announciation, nominang at mount laurier, in between there is coverage but its spotty, usually if you see a small town you can get coverage. Ambulance service will drive up the trail, so if you can get to a nearby house and call for help, they will come and get you. There are also patrollers on the path, and many cyclists. We had someone break a collar bone last year on the trail, and we had to skate to a nearby house...the ambulance drove up to the fall point...not a problem.
  2. are biting stinging bugs a concern
bugs are not an issue, I've never even had to put on DEET. There is the occasional bug flying on the path though, so try to skate with your mount closed
  3. are helemets mandatory
Not sure if helmets are mandatory; there are patrollers and I don't know if they enforce any safety bi-laws. As a distance skater and a competitive racer (I race in the pro masters division), I strongly encourage you to wear a helmet. The risk of looking good compared to a random concussion is simply not worth it. Often falls happen even when your just standing around and not paying attention. Don't take concusions for granted.
  4. plently facilities and water along the trail.
if you skate from labelle, there is water at 20km (announciation) and 38km (nominang), but after that there is is only an occasional villiage with a gas station until mount laurier...some 50+km. If you intended to skate end-to-end, I strongly suggest wearing a camel back, and tanking up at nominang. There is a corner store there as well, where I usually buy extra poweraid, or coca cola
I hope you give it a try...I recommend starting from Labelle and skating out to Nominang and back. That will give you almost 80km, with water and corner stores at 20k stops. You can rest as needed and the path conditions at that end of the trail are better than the mount laurier end.

When your done, don't eat out on the patio of the little "musse" restoraunt, go inside and ask for the full meal menu...you can get a really good steak, its $30 but after a long skate its worth every penny

調べてみると、全長200キロのコース沿いに休憩ポイントが点在している感じで、冬はクロスカントリーコースようです。日本語の紹介サイト: http://www.from-montreal.com/ ならコチラ
