Hi Skaters,

As we get near the season start the Super teams are starting to finaize their roosters.

The Matter Inline Center World Team has brought in French Junior Ewan Fernandez as their number 5, Ewan will not do a full roster of races, but the World Marathon Junior runner up will join the team.

The revelation of 2006 WIC Frenchman Yuan Guyader, will head a very strong team with fellow experienced Frenchman Thomas Boucher, and the two tough Colombians & both former World champions Nelson Garzon & Jorge Cifuentes.

The Matter team is sure to have similar status to the powerfull High budget teams like Bont/Hyper, Sportvital/Rollerblade, Athleticum & Powerslide.

World Inline center Schindillegi will see the Dani Grab organization also fielding two other strong teams with co- sponsors Spirotiger & Bont.

    Team Matter Recruits EWEN FERNANDEZ
The formations of World Inline Cup, of French Inline Cup take shape gradually. We learned today that Ewen fernandez had been just solicited by the TEAM Matter (Powerslide) which is already composed of Yann Guyader and Thomas Boucher, as well as two Colombians. Explanations on this recruitment…

    A strong potential
EWEN FERNANDEZThe Matter team has just recruited the young person Ewen Fernandez in his rows. It will take part only in French Inline Cup, like to two of the stages of Swiss Inline Cup. It will not be aligned on any World Inline Cup overseas nor on the entirety of Swiss Cup because of its youth. Moreover, Matter, estimates that it must acquire the level necessary to these competitions. Matter recruited by estimating that its margin of progression was important. The objective is that it becomes a runner in 2008 full-time to then be able to carry out a complete program. It will thus make a season of training in a large team before plunging in the great bath the second year. It thus joined the family of French of the Powerslide group with Alexis Contin, Pascal Briand, Thomas Boucher and Yann Guyader.
    Yann Guyader
Yann Guyader“Matter did not know Ewen Fernandez. They sought a young runner with a strong potential and accepting a more reduced program of race. Ewen completely seemed to us to stick to this project. Thomas Butcher and me proposed in Matter which accepted. That will enable us to involve ourselves well together and to know us well.

It is an important factor for him which will apprehend for the first time the high world level senior. With this age, one needs to be in confidence and to feel at ease in a team, otherwise, it is hard.
I knew this situation with my old TEAM, Mariani being young. I did not speak a word about Italian… “
In addition, the Colombians of the TEAM Matter should come to live in Nantes in order to involve myself closest to their fellow-members.

  • Interview with Thomas boucher
Hey thomas, how was the training during the winter after a pretty long season in 2006?
After the 2006 season i was really tired, that's why i took some rest to recover from this huge season.I did not skate for a month before restarting training easily. In comparison with the previous winter i restarted training hard like a month later, in the early january to be in a good shape at the end of may-beginning of june which is gonna be a tough month for us since we're gonna skate marathon every weekend and sometimes twice.I had the same training schedule with running session, indoor training, plyometrics and outdoor training and some indoor soccer for fun. They main difference for me since the previous winter is that i tried ice skating in the Nederlands for a month to get fun, by the way i did some ice marathon in B and i got quite a lot of fun. The winter here in europe is always a long way to go since you train in the cold that's why i'm pretty happy to restart the inline season to catch some rays.

This year you are joining the brand new Matter-World Inline Center team, you left the Powerslide world team but you still belong to the BIG Powerslide family; how do you feel with this change for your career in the future? What are you waiting from this new challenge?
As everybody knows the WIC rules slighlty changed for 2007 from 5 skaters to 4 skaters for the races overseas that's why powerslide couldn't keep all of us as we all wanted to do all the races.I had a one year contract and the others signed for two years that's why i left the team, but i really wanted to stay in the Powerslide family as all the Powerslide crew gave me such a big support in 2006 and thanks to them i'm still in the family. I'm really happy to join the Matter-World Inline Center team eventhough i would have been happy too to stay in the PS team as i truely believe that the best way to build a strong team is to stay all together for a long while in order to create some automatism as Salomon did in the past. I'm ready for the season to begin and i'm eager to be in Seoul. But now i'm fully devoted to the Matter team and i'm ready to catch some big victories in 2007, i will also have to be like a captain for my mates since apart Yann all the other guys are new on the WIC and they need to learn the way to skate a marathon.I wanna achieve this new challenge and for sure this year is gonna be one of the most chalenging season for me.

After representing in Cartagena, you won quite easily the international tournament in Lagos Portugal. What were the main differences between this two big events? Tell us about this two experiences.
Each year the winter is a way too long, so when Guido (Patincarrera) emailed me and told me i was invited to race in Cartagena Colombia, i was really happy to be able to compete on a high level while the other french guys were freezing at training in France.I knew i wouldn't fight for the victorybut this competion was a good way to start the new season. In Lagos, i was contesting in the colors of the French selection.After2006 season little disappointing, i decided to focus much more on traditionnal races. I think it's really important, cause then after skating more often track and road racing, the training for worlds gets easier and you are used to this tough races. The main difference between this two event was the level. Indeed in Colombia, the event was part of the qualifying race to be part of the national team for the worlds in Cali, so all the top Colombian skaters were really fit there.I was just arriving from France were the tempature was arround 3° and there in Colombia it was really hot like 30°. Added to the lime lag the temperature gap did not help me to skate well. It was almost the same for all the European skaters, but day after day and race after race i felt better and better and i finally finished with a good 6th place on the marathon ahead some world class Colombian skaters. In Lagos there were not any south american skaters, so eventough there were some world class skaters like Pier Davide Romani and Garikoitz Lerga we couldn't do any comparison.Back from Cartagena i had a good rythm, that's why i won the first race, you know the difference between me and the other skaters was exactly the same as in Cartagena when i raced the first day versus the Colombians, but i was suprise to sprint versus Garikoitz cause i didn't expect him to be that fast. Eventhough Lagos was not that big i got a lot of fun to race there, especially when i won the point race which was for me the first time in senior. I was pretty happy to beat Pier Davide which got 4th on that race at worlds in Anyang but i really wanna dedicate this victory to ewen that did an amazing job for me.

Ewen is new in the team and for his first year in senior he's gonna contest the FIC and some WIC, it seems he did really well his job to bring you to the victory in Lagos...What are you expecting from him for the upcoming season?
As a first race in senior, Ewen did a really good job. I knew he would do it well anyway, because i knew he would listen to my advices during the race. Ewen is that kind of guy that kill himself to bring you to the victory like was Franck Cardin in the past. Both are not so fast but they can kill everybody and help you till dying. I wish him to have a career as successfull as Franck. Ewen he still young and we have to be carefull not to burn him too early because he's not used to race every week end, but for sure if he's trainng well and listening to our advices he will be one of the best workers worldwide on marathon and traditionnal races. You can count on him in the future.

In 2006 you got pretty good results in WIC with 8th overall but you didn't reach your goals in the international champs...What are gonna be your goals in 2007?
Last year i really wanted to do a good WIC season but unfortunatly i was not really lucky, several times i was close to catch a podium like in seoul where i got 4th. I know it's more important to win a WIC race than always being in the top then but to me when you are in the top 10 overall it's also showing your ability to skate on a high level the whole season, that's why in 2007 i'll try to finish again well placed overall but the main target will be to catch some podiums and victory in WIC. I'm also focused on Worlds this year after being a little disappointed of my results in anyang last year...

  • Interview with Ewen Fernandez
Hey ewen could you introduce yourself in few words?
I'm Ewen Fernandez,i'm 18 and i'm living in Bouayes in the suburb of Nantes.During the week i'm living in Nantes in a special building for sportsmen and i'm also studying in a special school what allows me to train twice a day with my teammate Thomas Boucher and Yann Guyader and some other French skaters.

You join the Matter-World inline center team for your first year senior with 4 former world champion,i guess it will be such a cool experience for you to skate with world class skaters along the marathon season isn't it?What are the main goals for you during this very first season in the world circus?
I always dreamed to join one day a Top team and contest the biggest races worldwide like the World-Inline-Cup and this dream comes true thanks to Matter and Powerslide because they gave me the opportunity to race the Biggest marathon worldwide. The coming season is gonna be a great experience for me because i'll race with big champions(My mates)and versus the fastest guy on earth.I'm eager to race my very first big marathon.I'm realistic i know it is gonna be tough at the beginning cause i'm a new comer on the WIC and everybody has a big experience but i will do my best to help my mate on order to catch some good results.I know that's what i have to do, to become one day the leader of a top team, that's the game.I really don't wanna disappoint Matter and Powerslide cause they gave me a really good apportunity to show everybody what i'm able to do and i know there's a lot of skater that like to be in such a team.
My goals for this very first season in senior with the Matter team are; first to help my mates as much as possible at each marathon and get some podium at the national champs in order to be in the national team for the European and World championships.

You raced last week in Portugal with the French national team with your mate Thomas Boucher, it seems you done quite well ,tell us in few word about this experience.
This race was my first race in senior and it was a good way to learn the way to skate against world class skaters like Pier Davide Romani and Garikoitz Lerga, it was also my first race with the senior national team. There was already a good complicity and we found easily automatism.I was always focused and i was listening to Thomas's advices in order to work as well as possible and help him to catch the victory easily.I learned a lot with Thomas ,because the races are a way different from junior races.I wish i will learn a lot along the season with Nelson, Jorges, Yann and Thomas and continue to improve myself.

For this very first season in senior your race schedule will be smaller than the other member of the Matter -World inline center team, you will contest the French Inline Cup and three world-cups abroad(Basel,Sempach and Berlin), how do feel and what is your approach before the coming races pretty different from the traditionnal races you were used to skate?
I really enjoy skating marathon eventhough it has to be raced a way different from the traditionnal races.I'll have to stay wise during the first K on order not to be done after 10k.I feel pretty good and i'm ready to rumble.I'm no so nervous, i would say i'm eager to race with my mates and work for them till i'm dying :).I think i can be usefull for them as i got 2nd last year at the marathon of the World championship in Anyang "Korea" behind Peter Michael member of the Powerslide phuzion team.

Aside from the marathon with Matter , being member of French national team is also a goal for you isn't it?
The national team is and will always be a goal for me,i think it's an honor to represent his country at Euros and Worlds. Moreover i dream to contest the Worldchampionship in the coming seasons, that's why it's important to me to be part of the team.

    Anything to add?
I just would like to say a BIG THANK to Matter and all the Poweslide crew(Matthias, Jurgen, Joost, Patrick etc) for giving me the opportunity to race at the highest level and having confidence in me.
-I also would like to thank Thomas Boucher and Yann Guyader because thanks to them i achieved my dream while joining the Matter team and they are also helping me a lot daily at the training while giving me a lot of advices
-Last thank to my coatches Pacal Briand and Arnaud Gicquel
I'M READY FOR THE SEASON TO START
