2007 Sportvital Rollerblade World Team
Team names announced for the 2007 season
Tanya Dobbin, (Feb. 20, 2007)
Sportvital Rollerblade in 2007 would like to announce their finalised team for this year's racing season.

In the men's team we have two new skaters. The first is a Swiss star and Champion, Nicolas Iten. Nicolas has been around for many years and will be a very big asset to the team this year with the endurance and his strength. The second new member of the team is a young Frenchman Fabien Hascoet. Fabien is new to the WIC but at the Junior World Championships in 2005 Fabien was a Junior World Champion with his French teammates in the Relay. Fabien is a very strong, young and devoted skater who will contribute everything he has to the team.

The three other members of the team in 2007 are Diego Rosero from Colombia who is a numerous time World Champion, last year won the Swiss Inline Cup Overall Ranking and finished third in the World Inline Cup Overall Ranking. The fourth member of the team is the New Zealand star Shane Dobbin. Shane has been with Rollerblade for many years and is a big link in the Sportvital Rollerblade chain. Shane is a three time World Champion and has been on the podium throughout his career numerous times for Rollerblade. Both Diego and Shane are the 'big daddies' of the team and I'm sure everyone will be learning a lot from their experience and knowledge.

The final member of the men's Sportvital Rollerblade team is the Colombian Juan Nayib Tobon. Juan is an extremely fast sprinter and has proved that many times throughout 2006. Juan is not only a great skater but a great person also.

These five men are proud to wear the Sportvital Rollerblade colours in 2007 and are looking forward to their training camp in Grosseto, Italy to get to know one another and train together to become the Sportvital Rollerblade family.

The ladies team is very similar to last year with just one change. After Angele Grandgirard decided to hang up her skates and retire, Sportvital Rollerblade knew it would be hard to fill her shoes. But they certainly have put together a very talented and successful team for 2007. The new member of the team this year is Chilean Catherine Penan. Catherine is by fast the most successful young talented stars in the sport of Inline Skating being the most successful junior athlete at the last two World Championships. She is strong, fit and fast and will be a very big part of the Sportvital Rollerblade team. Laura Lardani from Italy, Tamara Llorens from Argentina and Michaela Neuling and the three remaining athletes to complete the ladies team. Laura finished on top in the WIC in 2006 and will be back this year wanting to get back on the podium;
Tamara Llorens is the strongest most devoted women there is on the circuit. Tamara always gives everything she has to the team and will be right there in 2007 with much more success. Finally Michaela Neuling has been European Marathon Champion and has finished on the podium through her career. These four ladies are ready to race and ready to be successful in 2007.

In 2007 not only does the Rollerblade team have new sponsors it also has new team members and a new team name. The 2007 team is the Sportvital Rollerblade World Team; with the new name the team has a new life. After the retirement of two of it's stars, Jorge Botero and Angele Vaudan Sportvital Rollerblade set out to find new team members to bring more success to the team in the future.

The men's team is joined by the Swiss star Nicolas Iten, who has been competing for many years at the top and has many results to his name in the past years. Nicolas is still young but has a lot to offer the team with his endurance and strength and will also be willing to learn a lot from the veterans of the team (Rosero & Dobbin).

For the ladies team, the Chilean star Catherine Penan will be one of the ladies to watch out for in the Sportvital Rollerblade colours. Catherine has dominated the Junior World Championships for the past three years standing out in the endurance events. Catherine is one of the strongest most talented young skaters out there and will be joining the ladies Sportvital Rollerblade World Team in 2007. Catherine is young but has a lot of race experience and she knows how to win. She will be a big asset to the 2007 ladies team and we look forward to seeing both Catherine and Nicolas racing under the new Sportvital Rollerblade World Team colours and uniform in 2007.

Interview with the Swiss Star Nicolas Iten
"I want to help my team as much as I can to win as many races as possible"
Tanya Dobbin, 25.01.2007

Nicolas Iten is one of the newest members added to the Sportvital Rollerblade World Team. Nicolas has been training hard during the Winter to prepare himself for the 2007 racing season to give everything he can to the team. Nicolas is a very talented skater and has alot to offer the team along with alot of experience. Nicolas gave us some time for an interview to get to know him a little better and to find out what he has been up too.

How does it feel to be a part of the Rollerblade World team in 2007?
I feel really good. I'm very proud to be a skater of the strongest team during the last seasons. It was always my dream to become a member of an international team like Sportvital-Rollerblade. I have been 7 years in the same team, now it was time for me to change for learning new things, which is what motivates me.
Nicolas Iten
What type of training have you been working on during the off-season?
The type of training didn't change a lot to last year. I try to focus more on my skating technique and want to be ready earlier than the last year for the first world cup races. Now I train 3 times on the skates during the week and also some gym and endurance training on the bike. I try to go on the cross-country skis as much as I can, but the winter was very warm this year with only a little snow. Sometimes I go on the ice and practice a lot of polysportiv training in my study.

How do you feel your training has been going (are you where you wanted to be for this time of year)?
At the moment I am satisfied with my fitness. 3 weeks ago I won the Swiss-indoor championship and I felt very good. At the moment I have to practice for my sports exams, so I feel a little bit tired but I don't have to forego my skating training.

What do you feel your strength is to the team?
My strength is that I have been 7 years in another team where I learned some good training during the winter and I also learned a lot of interesting aspects like training plan or fitness testing in my study, as a result of this I can give some inputs to my team. I know many training places around the region of Zug where the team is placed. My other strengths to the team I will find out when we are training and racing together.

What is your favourite type of race and why?
I like breakaway races with rough conditions like uphill and rain. I like these races because I can win them and when I was young I always trained alone and every training session was intervals.

What is it that you are looking forward to the most in 2007?
To learn many new things, new people and the rough races like the team trial in Basel and the uphill race where our team is very strong. I'm also looking forward to the training camp, which is the first time I will see my new teammates.

What are your goals for the 2007 season?
I want to help my team as much as I can to win as many races as possible. I also want to be free of injury and don't want to forget the fun in this sport. For me personally I want to be on the podium at the European Championships in Portugal.

Tanya Dobbin, 07.02.2007
Catherine Penan is the new edition to the ladies 2007 Sportvital Rollerblade World team. She is young, talented and is living her dream of skating with the Sportvital Rollerblade World team. Catherine is one of the strongest junior skaters at the World Championships and has certainly proved what she is capable of. Now she has joined forces with Sportvital Rollerblade in 2007 and is ready to make her mark in Europe and in the senior rankings. She is welcomed into the team and it will be a great season to have her skating under the new Sportvital Rollerblade colours.

Catherine PenanHow does it feel to be with the Rollerblade team?
I am very excited to be able to be a part of the Rollerblade team. It has always been a dream of mine to be with Rollerblade and the team and to be able to compete under the Rollerblade colours. I have always imagined Rollerblade to be a very good team and now that I am with them I love it, it's the best.

Are you excited and happy to be racing marathons in Europe?
I feel very happy and very excited to be racing the marathons in Europe. Also it's great to be able to do that with the team that I have dreamt about being a part of, Rollerblade.

Have you raced many marathons in the past?
I have raced marathons before but only at the National Championships in Chile and also those at the World Championships. I haven't race any races in Europe but I really look forward to it and I think it's perfect.

What is your favourite race and why?
My favourite race is a combination. I like a very hard race but at the same time I like the emotion and the anticipation of the finish.

What do you feel you are best at in skating?
I feel very good in any long race. I also prefer a hard race. I like a lot the race that makes me think a lot and have a lot of strategy. I also love to look at the ladies in the race at see my competitors.

What do you feel you will bring to the Rollerblade ladies team?
I feel I am a very strong competitor and have a lot that I can bring to the ladies team. I am very forceful and very strong, along with I am a good teammate, a good friend, and if God wants I can also win.

What type of training have you been doing in Chile?
In Chile I have been coached very hard and have been training very hard. I have many training sessions at the gymnasium. I run a lot as well as at the same time I also skate a lot. I know that in 2007 it will be a very strong and hard year so I am 100% dedicated to my training to prepare me for this.

How do you picture 2007 to be for you?
This year the year has already been very good to me. I expect this year to be able to intergrade with the team and have a full year of excitement and triumphs not just in skating and sport things but also in personal things.

What are your goals for the 2007 season?
My goal for this 2007 season is to reach as many victories as possible for the team. I am also skating with the best ladies in the World on the circuit so I want to be able to race as best as I can with them in the races on the circuit. I want to compete at the World Championships and the Pan American Championships for Chile and to obtain medals at these Championships.

We certainly look forward to catching up with Cathy again soon!
