| Malaysia to host Asian X Games Mar. 20, 2006 | After a lapse of a year, the Asian X Games will be returning to Kuala Lumpur, with the eighth edition of the event to be held at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park in Petaling Jaya from May 12 to 14.
Malaysia will be organising the event for the fourth occasion after having played host between 2002 and 2004.
The event was introduced in Phuket in 1998. Last year, the event took place in Seoul, South Korea.
“We are excited about the event returning to Kuala Lumpur. In the past, the city has proven to be an ideal venue. We are impressed with the huge crowd that turned up to cheer the athletes, encouraging them to achieve better feats. We are anticipating another great weekend here in May,” said ESPN Star Sports managing director Jamie Davis.
Recently, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai graced the launching ceremony held at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel.
This season's event is presented by Kia Motors and supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry under the Rakan Muda programme.

It is expected to attract more than 200 extreme sports athletes from 20 countries.
Foreign countries that are likely to take part include Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, the United States, Australia, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Argentine, Netherlands, France, and Canada.
“This partnership is an indication of the ministry’s seriousness in bringing top-class events to the Malaysian audience as extreme sports has a strong following among our youth. It also serves as an opportunity for the Malaysian athletes to gauge their standard against top-class international athletes,” said Liow.
Participants will be vying for honours in three events – aggressive in-line skating (street, vert and street best trick), skateboard (street, vert and street best trick) and sport climbing (bouldering and speed for men and women).
In addition, the freestyle and step up Moto X will also be introduced as demonstration events.
ESPN Star Sports group event management senior director Harvey Davis and Kia Motors Asia & Pacific regional headquarters representative Lee Soon-Nam were also present at the ceremony.
During the launch, a group of BMX riders and break-dancers entertained the crowd with their antics.
“We achieved our objective in creating a strong brand recognition among the younger generation through our association with the event. Last year, the event provided the brand with an enormous advertising and marketing exposure,” said Lee.
Admission to the three-day event is free.
