 話題に成るだけにスケーターの関心が非常に高い 3 Point Mounting S-Frame ですが、ちょっと引っ張りすぎって思うほど待ちに待ったオフィシャル写真がBONT から発表されました。でも Vaypor Boots を Notebook のアクセス数で考えると、3 Point と 2 Point で差がありません。ユーザーとしてはBONT独自のシステムでもあり、気持ちが傾いていても、即 3 Point へ移行するって事には、まだ多少ためらいがあるようです。レース結果が出る秋まで様子をみるのも一考ですね。S-Frame は９０ｍｍから１１０ｍｍまで対応しています。

Based on Bont’s 3 point mounting system, the S-frame is the lightest frame in the world. The frame is extruded in Germany from military grade magnesium alloy, and machined in Holland.
The S-frame gains exceptional strength from the S shape extrusion and the fact that the frame has no side wall cut-outs. Previous magnesium inline frames were flawed in 3 areas which have all been solved with the S-frame design.
a) The frames had windows in the sidewalls allowing for stress to be focused on one small support beam. The S-frame has no side wall windows.
b) More material under the wheel mounting axle has been added as we identified this as an area that could have been a problem.
c) The magnesium tensile strength of the S-frame is comparable to the strength of the aluminum in the Sniper, far stronger than any magnesium frame on the market today.
The S-frame has no pitch, which means that the front and rear mounting are both at the same height. The standard frame pitch is 10-12mm. This gives us the option of building less pitch into the boot. The Vaypor 3 point package will come with 7mm pitch as standard. Less pitch makes skating easier over longer distances.
The Vaypor 06 model is the only model that will take advantage of the S-frame initially, but we will be offering the 3 point system across the range in the future.

Normally, if a Bont and Hyper wheel say 85A the Bont wheel will actually be 2A harder due to different testing equipment. The Hyper wheel will come up as 83A when it says 85A with our machine. We tested 84A on this hub but it was way too hard. Our hub is probably the stiffest on the market, it is a polycarbonate blend, so it is extremely stiff. Also, our hub is a few mm larger than the other 100mm wheels on the market, so there is less urethane which also makes the wheel feel harder. I think 82A will be the hardest compound we will produce and we will also make one in 80A. The sample in the picture said 85A but it was too hard.
One good feature about this hub is that it is a one piece hub, so the 2 parts can not flex in the corners like you find in some other brands.

The hub has been designed to minimize wind resistance as there are no spokes and the material uses a high percentage of polycarbonate so it is super strong. Additives were added to the polycarbonate to stop it from shattering. The Wayv hub offers the advantages of a disc hub with the rebound of a spoked hub. The Wayv wheel has a very stiff hub, and it has a large diameter of 70mm so we have reduced the A rating to 82A. At 82A the wheel will feel as hard as a normal 86A wheel and will have a massive amount of roll yet still offer a lot of grip from the lower A rating. Another advantage of the hub is that it is made in one piece. 2 piece hubs have been known to move slightly when the skater is going through hard corners.
The hub is produced in Sydney, Australia and the urethane is poured in California, USA. The urethane will be our G3 formula that has been successfully raced on for 2 years.
The Wayv wheel will be the lightest race wheel on the market @ just 99 grams.

alx (Mar. 23 2006)The wheels are here and i am really happy with them. The graphics are rubbing off a little too easy so that will be improved. The weight has come in 3 grams heavier than the testing wheels so they are now 102 grams and i will change the marketing for that.

Bont Skates Message Board and News : Wayv wheel now only 99 grams The first batch sold out and we are doing a small tool change on the hub before releasing the second batch based on more user feedback. The second batch is about 2 months away.

Yes, we only made 5000 wheels in the first batch. Got more feedback and made a small tooling change then Bayer (who makes the hub material) said we need to wait 18 weeks for more hub material. So, there will be quite a wait until the next batch can be poured...

I posted a lot of progress reports on the net in regards to the weight. The original samples you may have seen were 99g, then we needed to increase additives in the hub and it increased the weight of the wheel to 102g. The next wheels will be 106g as we have modified the tooling on the hub.

The whole Wayv development programme is cancled. There are still issues with the material flow rates of the polycarbonate that are too expensive to fix. There are not enough skaters to buy wheels to pay for the development of this wheel.
