USA Inline Fit and the ussg agree to Focus on their Strengths
Los Angeles, CA - The two groups that were formed after the International Inline Skating Association (IISA) discontinued, USA Inline Fit and the United Skate Schools Group, Inc. (USSG), have agreed to focus on their respective organizations' strengths and will divide up responsibilities between each of their organizations in order to best serve the inline community.
After a year of transition and much effort, both organizations have agreed on how to best support the sport of inline skating by doing what each does best. The USSG will continue with instructor education and skate school business development, while USA Inline Fit will focus its sights on developing their inline marathon training programs and will officially pass the baton of the instructor certification program and insurance to the USSG. "We are excited to expand our Instructor Examination Program (IEP) in the New Year," says ussg Advisor Krista Heubusch, "With the program's innovative material, we expect the IEP to reach and challenge many more new candidates."
In 2004, the IISA sought out USA Fit to tend the IISA instructor certification program (ICP), provide insurance for the instructors and host the instructor search system. On very short notice, USA Inline Fit accepted the challenge and sorted out the insurance for the instructors and established an instructor search service on their website which is mirrored on the old IISA website, iisa.org, now called the Inline Skating Resource Center. USA Inline Fit was developed under the highly successful USA Fit model of marathon training programs for runners and walkers. While fulfilling their initial objectives, USA Fit continued to develop their training programs and has shifted their resources to better build these programs. Recently, USA Fit announced its Austin Inline Fit program which will train skaters for the upcoming Texas Road Rash and the 2006 Disney World Inline Marathon.
The USSG, a membership organization for skate schools and instructors that offer inline skating, roller skating and skate boarding instruction, will continue to offer examination programs and insurance, as well as, manage the instructor search service. "I do feel there's a special bond between our organizations after going through such a transitional time together." says USSG Director Janet Miller Sheehan, "I wish them much success in their training programs and I look forward to sharing with them in the growth of our sport." 2006 USSG membership renewal and registration information will be posted at www.unitedskateschools.org after December 1st.

Inline Planet : United Skate Schools Group Takes Over Instructor Duties

USA Inline Fit is the new managing organization for the inline skate organization founded by IISA
| http://www.usainlinefit.com/ Dear former IISA instructors,
Many of you have already heard of the United Skate Schools Group (USSG), however, we continue to receive questions regarding certification and would like to make sure you are aware of the changes in our industry. The USSG recognizes the former IISA-ICP certifications and helps you to renew your certified instructor status. The USSG was formed to fill the vital need for insurance, certification, and continuing education for those of us who wished to continue teaching the sport we love. The USSG offers skate school and instructor insurance to embers, certifies new skate instructors, and offers member benefits including; certified instructor search and directory listings, an e-newsletter, community list-serve, manufacturer proforms, professional recognition, and more.
Following is a review of the development of the USSG to help you better understand us and to help us better serve you.
In mid-December '04 the IISA announced that they were closing their doors. The IISA had appointed a new group USA Inline Fit, an off-shoot from running organization USA Fit, to handle the instructors. Unfortunately, this new group did not offer skate school commercial liability insurance which left some of us scrambling to pull together a program with just days remaining on the policy.
When I found out that we would not have commercial liability insurance I immediately set out to secure insurance for my company, California Skate School, Inc. In years past, I gained the experience of working directly with the insurance company because of our high volume of additional insured certificate requests and was able to get commercial coverage for my own skate school. However, I knew that many of my friends, who taught and also owned skate schools, would not have access to commercial liability insurance. The more I thought about it the more I realized that we, skating instructors, had just lost a valuable resource.
We had lost an internationally recognized organization that added credibility to our cause and our voice.
We had maintained our current certifications, though they were now meaningless as the certifying organization no longer existed.
We had lost access to our safety net of insurance that enabled us to protect our skate schools.
In addition, my family and I had just moved to a new city - leaving behind my responsibilities as City Planning Commissioner and as chair in several volunteer organizations while at the same time gaining an old fixer-upper. I had just recommitted myself to my skate school. What was I to do now that the rug had just been pulled out? I began to brainstorm about an association that would help fill the needs of skate schools as well as instructors. I contacted friends with whom I had kept in touch with over the years and asked them to be the USSG Advisors.
The foundation of the USSG was built with the volunteer efforts of those ten Advisors, all IISA examiners with diverse backgrounds and years of experience, whose commitment to skate education have helped steer the USSG into becoming an association for the skate education community. The USSG Advisors have proven to be a strong backbone for the association and with their help we continue on into a new chapter of skate education.
Within months the group sensed an immediate need for a certification program because new instructors were needed to help teach spring and summer programs. The USSG then announced we would offer a certification program for inline and roller skating. Former IISA-ICP Examiners were invited to continue their leadership as USSG Skate Education Specialists (SES) and administer the Instructor Examination Program (IE). Already, this committed group of Specialists has shared their time and knowledge throughout the country by dedicating hours to the personal and professional development of their candidates in the IE Programs.
By fall of '05, USA Inline Fit announced that they would discontinue their role and officially pass the baton of the instructor certification program and insurance to the USSG. The USSG would assume all instructor and certification related responsibilities.
Amazingly and despite a relentless series of personal challenges, we had achieved more than planned in just the first year. We created re-certification and certification exams, certified our first USSG candidates, had our inaugural Education Conference, announced official responsibility of the instructors, and expanded member benefits.
